Race Information
It's fall, the leaves are changing colors and it's getting a little cooler out; so grab your running shoes, sweaters, hoodies, and camera, and join us to virtually Run the Blue Ridge Parkway.
We've set up a Virtual Challenge to run (or bike) the entire thing. It's just under 500 miles and you'll have just under 2 months, so in an effort to keep it a doable task you'll get 10 miles of credit for every mile you run, and 5 miles for every mile you ride.
We're running South to North...No other reason than that's where our office is. So we'll be lacing up (or saddling up) in Cherokee, NC (at the Southern entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park) and making our way North along the entire parkway and arriving in Rockfish Gap, VA.
We'll be using Racejoy in addition to entering your time, so you have two ways you can track and look at your progress throughout the months and keep up with your progress...You can even take advantage of the google street view for the entire course.
Swag? You bet...We've got a couple things that will be available for purchase:
An awesome wood key chain that we'll be putting the logo on
A Long Sleeve Soft Stye Shirt
-Beneficiary-
Did you know that the Blue Ridge Parkway (and all the other National Parks) does not get all of their funding from the government?
Did you know that the admission fees (if they're charged) may not be 100% kept by the park that collects them. Bigger parks give part of the monies collected to smaller parks who don't have the same visitation.
Did you know that even the bigger parks do not collect enough to have the ranger support needed for the number of guests during the busy seasons?
These are the reasons every park has some kind of non-profit organization connected to it to help fund the parks. When you go to a park and purchase something out of the official store at the Visitors Center, that money goes to the park to help fund programs.
We've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit a ton of the parks in the Continental US, and we've put together a Virtual Run or Ride Series through these magnificent places. Our hope is that you will get a chance to learn a little about the area, see what adventure awaits, and maybe take a trip to actually visit these incredible parks.
We're also partnering with the different park foundations across the country to donate some funds to help keep their programs going.
