Bad Kitty Trail 10K Trail Race & 5K Fun Run 2023

The Bad Kitty will be held February 11, 2023 at 8:00 A.M. CST.   If you have been apprehensive about trying trail running, this race is for you.

Description of Courses: The course will be marked and with an aid station at the finish line. All distances will include a little over 1 mile road run from the UNA Campus to the trails in Wildwood Park. The 10-k will have around 5 miles of single track trail. Sections of the course will be very challenging and technical. This course is not a smooth “rails-to-trails” type event, and it is called the Bad Kitty for a reason. That is why you signed up right? The scenery is beautiful and inspiring with a mix of tall hardwoods and Cypress Creek bordering a side of the park. There will be a live lion on the course. There will be many curves, hills, uneven ground, roots, rocks, small water crossings, and a potential for muddy areas if it rains. Please be sure to read the Potential Risks section. The 5-k will include ~2-miles of somewhat less challenging trail. While this trail will be “easier” it will still include hills and the same types of surfaces that may result in falling as the longer course.

The BKTR is a non-profit event organized by the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area, a National Park Service-funded program housed at the University of North Alabama. All proceeds will be used to fund (1) projects supporting trail development in Wildwood Park and (2) programs in Wildwood Park organized by graduate students in UNA's Sports and Recreation Management program.
